Michèl Verheem

I’ve spent over 30 years helping complex environments make sense to the people who use them. I founded ID-LAB in 2006, and today I lead Humanics Collective—a global consultancy built on the idea that user experience in the built environment deserves the same strategic thinking and design rigour as any product or service.

My expertise sits at the intersection of human behaviour, operational processes, stakeholder dynamics, and spatial logic. I write briefs, advise governments, shape strategies, and work alongside clients to create environments that support better decisions, smoother journeys, and stronger outcomes.

Whether it’s a hospital, a courthouse, or a national transport network, I’m interested in how people experience the space—how they understand it, move through it, and respond to it. That’s the real design challenge.

I once rode a BMW GS motorbike from Australia to the Netherlands. I got lost often—and loved every moment of it.
