The Markham Avenue development in Ashburton sets a new standard for social and affordable housing, prioritising sustainability, accessibility, and community connection. ID-LAB developed a wayfinding and signage strategy that integrates seamlessly with the architecture and landscape, ensuring an intuitive and inclusive experience for residents and visitors. Our approach supports effortless navigation while reinforcing the project’s commitment to equity, with signage that blends naturally into the built environment rather than feeling like an add-on.

Guided by universal design principles, our wayfinding system enhances legibility, accessibility, and ease of movement throughout the precinct. We incorporated high-contrast typography, tactile elements, and logical numbering to support a diverse user base, including vision-impaired residents and those with limited mobility. Pathway signage and entry markers were carefully positioned to respect sightlines and enhance the connection between buildings, open spaces, and community amenities.
