The Royal Hobart Hospital redevelopment was one of Tasmania’s largest health infrastructure projects. It added more than 39,000 square metres of new space, increasing the hospital’s footprint by over 50 percent and introducing a new public entrance and helipad. With such a major transformation, the need for clear, consistent wayfinding was critical.
Humanics Collective was engaged by Lyons as part of the broader consultant team, and we worked in close partnership with them to align the wayfinding strategy with the architectural vision and clinical priorities. Our goal was to support a seamless experience for patients, visitors and staff from day one.

Focus

Wayfinding was embedded within the architectural language from the outset. Information was designed to sit comfortably within the material palette, creating visual harmony while supporting safe and intuitive navigation. The strategy helped people find their way, understand their surroundings and focus on their reason for being there.
Strong coordination across disciplines ensured a high standard of delivery. Careful planning, close collaboration and consistent attention to detail kept the project on track and on budget, while delivering a system that works for the people who use it every day.
