Creating a clear path across a historic, multi-campus institution

Founded in 1911, the University of Western Australia (UWA) is the state’s oldest university and one of the country’s leading research institutions. Its Crawley campus sits on the banks of the Swan River, blending heritage architecture with major research centres, teaching facilities, and public spaces—making intuitive, consistent wayfinding essential to both everyday users and first-time visitors.

Humanics Collective was engaged to develop a wayfinding masterplan and design a new signage system for the Crawley, Nedlands and Health campuses. In close collaboration with Campus Management, Brand and Marketing, and the Information Technology department, we developed a new suite of signs that complements the university’s branding, functional, and technical requirements. Primary directional signs have been designed with digital capabilities and a new map design to improve wayfinding across the large historic campus.
