Gerard Mulvany
At Humanics Collective, I bring a cross-disciplinary mindset to the development of virtual and AI-driven experiences. I work at the intersection of Human–Computer Interaction, interaction design, media arts, and digital performance—always with a hands-on, iterative approach that prioritises real-world application.
My research is grounded in a pragmatic constructivist approach. I treat the design, testing, and deployment of digital tools as a form of enquiry in itself—especially when working with game engines outside the realm of entertainment. I’ve used these systems to explore everything from industrial training to live theatre, focusing on how real-time environments can support new ways of learning, performing, archiving, and interacting.
Alongside this applied work, I’ve authored peer-reviewed publications on VR-based wayfinding evaluation, immersive theatre, training design, spatial tracking, and collaborative virtual environments. These papers have been presented and published through international conferences and journals including CHI PLAY, VRST, ISMAR, and the International Journal of Performance Arts and Digital Media.
I once created a real-time lighting system for theatre that mimicked the shadows of a virtual storm—on stage, in sync, live.
