Bringing together sport, wellness, and connection under one roof

Yawa Aquatic + Leisure Centre is more than a place to swim. It serves as a cultural anchor for Rosebud and the broader Mornington Peninsula, offering a space where people of all ages and abilities can come together for movement, health, and community.

"Yawa" means "to swim" in the language of the Bunurong / Boon Wurrung people. The centre's name and presence honour and acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land. The project realises the community's long-standing vision for a local facility with high-quality fitness, rehabilitation, and social amenities.

Peddle Thorp Architects led the architectural design and brought Humanics Collective into the project to develop the wayfinding and signage strategy. Our collaboration with the Peddle Thorp team built on a trusted history of working together, where decisions are made in conversation with all parties involved.

We created a signage system that fits naturally within the environment and helps people orient themselves as soon as they arrive. Signs are placed to support smooth navigation through the reception, entry foyer, health club, pools, and wellness areas. The design prioritises clarity, consistency, and inclusivity. Whether someone is heading to a yoga class, hydrotherapy, or a family swim, they can find their way easily.

Our approach to wayfinding in this project is shaped by a belief in design that supports the experience. The system guides without overwhelming, helping everyone feel welcome and confident as they move through the space.
